WhatsApp is stopping its service on Blackberry, Symbian and Windows phones

WhatsApp has decided to stop supporting devices on the Blackberry (Including BB10; Hard luck folks), Symbian 40 and 60 OS, Windows Phone OS v7.1 and Android OS v2.1 and v2.2 and it will take effect from sometime this year 2016.

The reason for this move was given in a statement from WhatsApp which read that 99% of the mobile phone market currently comprises of Android, iOS, Windows 8 and above devices and devices which are not part of the aforementioned do not offer the kind of capabilities needed to expand WhatsApp’s features in the future.

In the statement they wrote “This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone before the end of 2016 to continue using WhatsApp.”

BB10 users are not completely cut off though, they can download the android whatsapp app since BB10 is an android based OS but this will mean that their messages will not be integrated in the hub like before.
